One of the treasures of our Landmark Historic District is the
fleet of ice yachts from the nineteenth century which continue to challenge the ice in our region. The Hudson River Ice Yacht Club is still active and the members - stewards of this great fleet - care for them and race them in the winter months.
These boats are strikingly beautiful and their history colorful, with names such as Icicle, Jack Frost, Hound and Vixen. Join us as Reid Bielenberg relays tales of their history, with many historic photographs copied from the Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park.
At 1pm, see Ice Yachting on Tivoli South Bay with members of the Hudson River Ice Club, ice conditions permitting. Please call 875-2474 after 10 am on the 22nd for ice report and parking instructions and directions.
